When a driver is convicted of a speeding violation after 07/01/22, and once the conviction is reported to the Department of Safety the driver may qualify to attend a department approved 4-hour traffic school to remove the traffic points assigned to the speeding conviction. Only one 4-hour traffic school completion is allowed every 5 years to remove assigned points, and a driver has 90 days to complete the course. Traffic school is an option and not a requirement.
Completion of a 4-hour traffic school will not remove a Speeding conviction from the driver record, only the points assigned. To remove a speeding conviction from the driver record you must work with the convicting court to have the violation dismissed.
