If you have special circumstances impacting your ability to physically visit a station in person to renew your license or identification card. The following documentation is required and must be submitted to the Department via the Special Handling Unit for assistance.
- Written and signed request requesting assistance through the special handling unit. The written statement must contain your driver license number and details outlining your specific situation preventing you from visiting the Driver Services Center in person.
- Supporting documentation regarding the circumstances. For example, medical statement from physician’s office.
- Copy of Driver License or Identification
The Class D Renewal Fee is $28.00
ID Renewal is $12.50
Conversion to a PID is $0.00

The internal processing time is generally five (5) to ten (10) business days from the date the Department receives the Request For Assistance Package. A letter/notification will be mailed regarding next steps, additional instructions, and guidance. It is important to know mailing time may vary depending on the United States Postal Service, Fed Ex, UPS, etc.
