Once seven (7) questions are missed the test will automatically shut off. This is the same procedure whether in a driver service center, and at home. If taking the test at home and you stay on one (1) question over two (2) minutes, the test will shut off. If you are taking the test at home, and if you reach the thirty (30) minute mark the proctor has to verify that the child is still taking the test, otherwise the test will cut off. All of these scenarios lead to automatic failure.
If the applicant’s browser or computer is not updated, it could cause the applicant to experience technical issues. Once an applicant makes 2 attempts to complete the test, the applicant will be required to visit a center in person. The internal help desk is not authorized to assist customers on external computers issues due to security restrictions, etc. The attempt register cannot be altered. This restriction is programmed in to protect the integrity of the testing process.
Teenagers between the ages of 15 to 17 may now take their written knowledge test online under a proctor's supervision (parent/legal guardian) via the Tennessee Proctor IDentification (PID) app. Those taking the online test will be required to verify their identity and agree to be monitored throughout the exam. The test can be attempted twice online. If someone fails twice, they will have to go to a Driver Services Center for future testing.
How to get a Tennessee Proctor Identification (PID) App
