If you have special circumstances impacting your ability to physically visit a station in person to renew your license or identification card due to a medical reason the following documentation is required and must be submitted to the Department via the Special Handling Unit for assistance. These will be determined on a case by case basis.
Required supporting documentation regarding the circumstances:
- Written and signed request from the applicant ONLY. The written statement must contain your driver license number and details outlining your specific situation preventing you from visiting the Driver Services Center in person.
- Supplemental documentation required to justify reason, examples are medical statement from physician’s office on letterhead.
- Copy of Driver License or Identification
The Class D Renewal Fee is $28.00
ID Renewal is $12.00
Conversion to a PID is $0.00

The internal processing time is generally five (5) to ten (10) business days from the date the Department receives the Request For Assistance Package. A letter/notification will be mailed regarding next steps, additional instructions, and guidance. It is important to know mailing time may vary depending on the United States Postal Service, Fed Ex, UPS, etc.
